Message from the CEO – injury at Trans Mountain work site

December 16, 2020

Yesterday, a contractor was seriously injured on a Trans Mountain construction site in Burnaby, B.C.. My thoughts are with the individual who was hurt, their family, fellow workers and all those affected by this serious incident.

The incident was reported to the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) late on December 15. CER safety specialists are on site today to oversee the company’s investigation of this incident and will conduct an assessment of risk and potential non-compliances. All site construction-related activity has stopped, and the Indigenous Advisory and Monitoring Committee for the project has been notified.

Oversight of occupational health and safety measures for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project is a shared responsibility of the CER and provincial authorities. We are in communication with WorkSafe BC.

Any incident is one too many. Every day, on every work site, people have the right to feel and stay safe. This sad occurrence brings home why we must always keep safety as our priority.

To follow any updates on this incident, see our website.
