This page contains information on time limit and service standard results under the Canadian Energy Regulator Act (CER Act).

Time Limits

On 28 August 2019, the CER Act came into force. Subsection 31(3) of the CER Act mandates that all applications and proceedings before the Commission must be dealt with as expeditiously as the circumstances and procedural fairness and natural justice permit, and within the time limit provided for in the CER Act.

Under the CER Act, the Lead Commissioner of the Commission of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) must set a time limit for certain types of applications. The time limit must not exceed the legislated number of days from the day which the Company applicant has provided a complete application, as decided by the Commission. The Commission must complete its assessment and make its recommendation or decision within this time limit.

Applications under CER Act, sections 183, 214, 262, or 298

100% of recommendations/decisions made within 450 days after the day on which an applicant has, in the Commission’s opinion, provided a complete application under section 183.

  • 130 days for Category A applications,
  • 210 days for Category B applications, and
  • 300 days for Category C applications

after the day on which an applicant has, in the Commission’s opinion, provided a complete application under sections 214, 262 or 298.

Service Standard Results: 100% of decisions released within the service standard of receiving a complete application to alter condition of a well:

  • 5 decisions released

Draft Audits
